What is Young Ideas?

The Young Ideas Competition

Young Ideas is a business idea competition targeting gymnasieskola-level students in Sweden, organised by nuStart.

Objectives

The Competition focuses on education. Our goal is to enable students to realise that their everyday ideas, when carefully considered and cultivated, can become feasible business ideas for the real world. The Competition encourages innovative ideas that make a positive impact. Submissions are also judged on feasibility.

We aim to inspire youth entrepreneurs and to foster and develop a culture of entrepreneurship among the youth. We believe that teenagers are a remarkably resourceful pool of talent and potential. The Competition is an opportunity for these creative minds to engage in the challenging ground-level processes and activities that all entrepreneurs experience.

Competition process

Competition applications open

Applications for idea presentation submissions will be open between 11 January 2010 and 26 March 2010. Idea presentations will be submitted electronically. If the nature of the idea presentation is not electronic, annotated photographs should be submitted instead.

Idea Wall

At any point in time while the competition application is open, participating teams may consult any member of the Idea Wall. The Idea Wall will be composed of experienced high school and university students from a wide range of backgrounds who will be available via email to answer questions and offer guidance as teams develop their ideas.

Workshop 1: Introduction to the Young Idea Competition 2010 and Creating Ideas

Held on 27 February 2010 in Stockholm, this workshop will be open to all those interested in participating. There will be a brief overview of the Competition as well as a question-and-answer session. The Idea Wall will also conduct a programme about creating ideas.

Workshop 2: Developing Ideas

Held on 13 March 2010 in Stockholm, this workshop will include fast-paced and interactive activities, facilitated by the Idea Wall, designed to help teams develop their ideas further. This session will help participants be more prepared for the final submission.

Award Ceremony

The Award Ceremony will take place on 24 April 2010 in Stockholm and be open to public. There will be an exhibition of the top submissions, at which members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite business idea. The top three teams will be awarded, together with the team with the most popular idea, chosen by the audience.

Why should I participate in Young Ideas?

The learning experience

Young Ideas is designed to be an educational experience for gymnasieskola-level students who have never considered starting their own businesses. If you have an idea for a business but are not sure how to take the next step towards starting your own company, you are also welcome to join us.

By participating in Young Ideas, you will learn how your everyday ideas can become the foundations for exciting and successful businesses.

We believe that students benefit greatly from educational interactions with their peers and other students. You will be guided through the Young Ideas Competition by experienced high school and university students who will provide information and advice.

Prizes

Awards will be given to the three teams that achieve the highest scores according to the judging criteria. Qualified judges will make all final decisions.

Awards will also be given to the top participating teams. These teams will be invited to exhibit their ideas at the Award Ceremony. Members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite business idea and the most popular submission will receive an award.
